Let’s start with the basics. How does a hybrid work? A hybrid model uses both a gas-powered engine and an electric motor to create forward movement. Both systems work at the same time, so you get a strong performance with an added boost of efficiency.

While the hybrid car blends its two energy sources together, the plug-in hybrid prioritizes its electric powertrain first. Once the electric power is depleted, it switches to gas power only. That means you’ll never run out of range. But, the plug-in hybrid must be plugged into an electric power source in order to regain battery power.
